Make-a-Wish house is ready to put on a Halloween spectacular.

Story by Hannah Mason, Staff Writer

Every major holiday in the Old Floresta neighborhood has one house that goes all out with decorations. This including, but not limited to: a blown up black cat, pumpkins, a light show, and glow in the dark skeletons. The house performs a show every night from 7-10 pm, leading up to Halloween. On Halloween, however, the show has dancers to add to the excitement. They are notably known to have the best house on the block, especially during Halloween. This house happens to be for a good cause, which raises awareness for kids that are terminally ill, also known as the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

The Make-a-Wish Foundation is a non-profit organization that gives children with life-threatening conditions a wish. The “wish” they make can range from travel somewhere, to meeting a celebrity, to modeling. With the amount of money raised for these children, anything is possible for them to have their last wish. It can ultimately be the last time they ever get to see the world again.

People come from all different communities and schools to see the house. It provides a small show for people and then afterwards they can donate money to the cause. The holiday spectacular is known to reel in a large crowd. The show is shown on certain days of the week, always at night to see the bright lights and effects it has to offer. Bystanders and people passing by, going through the street, will often stop to watch the show.

Claire Stabile, a junior at Boca High and a reoccurring visitor of the house says, “I go to the holiday house every year with my family during Halloween and the winter time. Last year, we took a picture with Santa and got free candy canes. It was a great experience, and I think they are helping a good cause.”

This event focuses on Halloween and Christmas, and it doesn’t matter if it’s your first time visiting the house or the fifth time, the house offers free special treats festive of the holidays. It shows the dedication the owner of the house has to the foundation and sticking to the holiday spirit. The shows bring families closer together, making new traditions. The holiday festivities are celebrated throughout the neighborhood with the presentation, showcasing the holiday hopefulness and fun-loving nature.

The owner of the house has been featured on TV and in major newspapers. Although it isn’t the biggest house on the block, it is the most talked about house in the neighborhood. The popular demand for the house allows it to continue to happen every year for a good cause. People aren’t forced to pay money, but it is well appreciated if they can donate some money going towards another child’s wish.

Overall, the holidays aren’t as bright and exciting without the house. The house figuratively and literally sheds light. It spreads holiday cheer, giving hope to children suffering from terminal illnesses. The holidays wouldn’t be complete without the house.
