Top Ten Winter Activites

Story by Craig Pravel, Staff Writer

During winter vacation, there are sixteen days of no school. Within that time, there are a lot of things to do. This list will show the top ten things to do during winter break.

  1. Spend time with your friends, family, and pets. During the winter vacation, try to communicate with your family and friends near you and spend time with them. You can also try and see the family members far away in different states or countries and spend time with them.
  2. Sleep and make up the hours you lost during the school year. All that sleep you lost by staying up late doing homework, drawing, playing videogames, watching YouTube, or just goofing around. You’ll have time to hibernate during the break.
  3. Travel to anywhere you want. You could travel to Paris, Greece, Spain, or wherever you desire. If you just want to stay at home, that’s fine too.
  4. Drink eggnog. It is often a tradition for people to drink it every winter break. The drink is pretty good and if you haven’t had eggnog before, try it to see if you like it. You never know what you could be missing out on.
  5. Go ice skating. Ice skating is a fun thing to do as long as you know what you’re doing. Trying it out for the first time can be a little difficult, but you’ll get the hang of it eventually. When you do, you’ll be able to enjoy speeding in the skating rink and going in circles without help.
  6. Do a gift exchange. Gift exchanging is something that is nice to do so people know that you know you care about them. There are many ways to do a gift exchange. One way is to do a raffle and whoever gets that number has to get the gift assigned to that number. If you don’t like it, you can change with someone else. Other ways are Secret Santa or White Elephant.
  7. Sitting by a fire. If the weather gets cold outside and you aren’t near any blankets, one way to stay warm is by making a fire. It may take time to prepare for it if you don’t have the proper items. I recommend having the fire outside instead of indoors, unless you have a fireplace.
  8. Skiing in the mountains. Skiing is one of the fun activities that people enjoy doing in the winter. You’re going to need practice in order to steer yourself so you don’t crash into trees or into other people. If you fall, don’t worry the snow catches you fall and you can just get up again.
  9. Eat cookies. Holiday cookies are best when they are warm and fluffy. They’re one of the best desserts out there and are pretty easy to make. All you need to do is get cookie dough and follow the instructions. You can decorate them if you want to, just to make sure that you have that extra holiday spirit.
  10. Watch fireworks. What better way than to end off the year with a bang and with colors. Setting off fireworks can be fun, especially for those fireworks that make a sonic boom that you can hear and feel from over three miles away. Even without that, fireworks are pretty, colorful, and exciting to watch. They shoot off into the sky and explode in color when the countdown for New Years hit ten seconds. A good place to enjoy the fireworks is in New York City, the place where the crystal ball drops. Another good place is in the comfort of your own home.

If you can do any of these or if you have something already planned, good job, if not then hopefully this list helps you. Make sure to enjoy your winter vacation to the fullest and stay safe.
